The Montana summers provide inspiration, discovery, transformation and life-long connections. Many of our alumni return every summer as part of our leadership team to contribute to this experience for others.

Hear from current high school students and alumni about how Wild Kids has impacted their lives:

The Wild Communities Foundation is dedicated to cultivating healthy intergenerational communities rooted in their commitment to responsible environmental stewardship. We believe everyone should be given the opportunity to develop a strong, personal relationship with nature, and a chance to connect with their inner-wild-child through positive, challenging journeys with other like-minded humans. This is an invaluable experience for students, and has long-lasting impact on their self-efficacy and success in life.

Each summer, participants have the opportunity to experience and grow through

Expeditionary Learning

Wild Kids offers participants the opportunity to grow leadership skills, self-efficacy and emotional resiliency through an expedition in the backcountry of Montana. Full immersion in nature, problem-solving as a group and adventuring gives everyone the chance to deepen their sense of self, community and place. This aspect of our trip imparts invaluable life skills to participants and helps set them up for success in other areas of life.

Horsemanship & Ranch Living

Each year, participants have the opportunity to engage in horsemanship at Roberta Cross Guns’ ranch outside of Great Falls, Montana. Roberta is the mother of Wild Kids founder, Christina Hoe, and a favorite human of Wild Kids everywhere. Horsemanship at the ranch is about building authentic trust through vulnerability and humility. Ranch life challenges everyone to “rough it” and develop their personal integrity and work ethic. This is always a highlight of the trip for participants and, for some, the most impactful experience.

Cultural Immersion

Every year, the Wild Kids participate in North American Indian Days on the Blackfeet reservation. In the past, the Wild Kids have danced in intertribals, participated in Sweat Lodge and helped with construction of a Sundance lodge. This experience is about observation and introspection, as well as exchange. In 2019, the Wild Kids were able to host students and elders from the Blackfeet tribe on O’ahu as part of a cultural exchange program. This exchange will continue as pandemic restrictions are lifted.
